Melbourne is a city that loves its doughnuts
Melbourne is a city that loves its doughnuts. There are dozens of doughnut shops scattered throughout the city, each with its own unique take on the classic treat. From traditional glazed doughnuts to more creative flavors like Nutella and salted caramel, there's something for everyone in Melbourne's doughnut scene.
Here are a few of the most popular doughnut shops in Melbourne:
Shortstop Coffee & Donuts: This small shop in the CBD is known for its delicious doughnuts and its excellent coffee. The doughnuts are made fresh to order and come in a variety of flavors, including classic glazed, chocolate glazed, and raspberry filled.
American Doughnut Kitchen: This shop is a bit of a throwback, with its old-fashioned décor and its focus on traditional American doughnuts. The doughnuts are made with real butter and fresh ingredients, and they're fried to perfection.
Doughboys Doughnuts: This shop is known for its creative and innovative doughnuts. The flavors change seasonally, but you can always expect to find something unique and delicious on the menu.
Bistro Morgan: This bakery is known for its delicious pastries, and its doughnuts are no exception. The doughnuts are made with brioche dough and filled with a variety of flavors, including crème brulee, salted caramel, and lemon curd.
TODCO: This shop is a relative newcomer to the Melbourne doughnut scene, but it's quickly made a name for itself with its creative and delicious doughnuts. The flavors are inspired by global cuisines, and the doughnuts are always beautifully decorated.
No matter what your taste, you're sure to find a doughnut you love in Melbourne. So next time you're in the city, be sure to check out one of these great shops and indulge in a delicious treat.
In addition to these popular shops, there are also a number of other doughnut shops in Melbourne that are worth checking out. Here are a few more suggestions:
Rustica Sourdough: This bakery is known for its delicious sourdough bread, but it also makes some great doughnuts. The doughnuts are made with sourdough dough and are available in a variety of flavors, including cinnamon sugar, chocolate chip, and vanilla bean.
Candied Bakery: This bakery specializes in Greek pastries, and its doughnuts are no exception. The doughnuts are made with a traditional Greek recipe and are filled with a variety of flavors, including custard, honey, and walnuts.
Tivoli Road Bakery: This bakery is located in the inner-city suburb of South Yarra, and it's a popular spot for breakfast and brunch. The bakery makes a variety of doughnuts, including classic glazed, chocolate glazed, and filled doughnuts.
So there you have it, a few of the best places to get doughnuts in Melbourne. Whether you're looking for a traditional glazed doughnut or something a bit more creative, you're sure to find something you love in this city.

If you’re in Queensland or Melbourne, check out happy dough (gluten free) doughnuts! They’re so good. They’re fresh, made on site. Soft, buttery, they’re little bit crispy on the outside like regular doughnuts. So many flavour options & vegan if you need that 😊. Some GF doughnuts are decent. My friend hasn’t liked any. She actually likes these.
If the store gets enough business in Melbourne, they’re going to renew their lease in 2 months. The Melbourne location is at Eastland shopping centre. They have several locations in QLD that are long term.

I saw a sign at the train station saying to not feed the birds because if they're fed, they'll be more likely to be hit by a train
And I just.... I mean....
#but it doesn't make sense#maybe i need to read it more closely#but like are well fed birds more heavier... or maybe the food gives them more energy to fly so they're flying in front of the trains????#the hungry birds are just skeletal things dragging their bony carcass along the platform#poor things are just praying there'll be a toddler spilling its hot chips so that the bird can feast and fly in front of a train#or going back to the heavier thing - like maybe the extra food weighs down and they're on the tracks and can't move fast enough???#like maybe they've got autopsies on these dead birds that trains keep hitting and found out they're all full of food#'this one has half a donut and a few muffin crumbs in it!!!!!!'#maybe we humans are just feeding them the wrong food#instead don't feed the birds what about a list of foods they can and can't eat to make them fly better????#like no donuts but the dregs of your hydralite will do nicely#anyway come see my show at the MICF where i discuss this in more detail#I'll be in the attic of whichever is the most decrepit building in Melbourne#Just me and a few pigeons#seriously though quitting my job to become a comedian lessssssgo#if my boss rings all panicked and talking fast about wanting an appointment changed one more time.......#LIKE SHE TALKS SO FAST AND SHE'S ALL PANICKY I CAN'T DEAL WITH IF THE RECEPTIONIST DOESN'T COME BACK I'LL DIE

I. Know. Everything. About you.
I went to see Groundhog Day live in Melbourne the other week and it has had me by the throat ever since. I may not be able to share the experience with friends, BUT I CAN SURE TRY
Desperately wanted to do the lead-up to this scene as well but I ran out of time, alas. Blizzard Donut, I'll come back for you one day.
Special thanks to the friends who tolerated my WIP spam + left suggestions. Phil's scarf was originally supposed to be a houndstooth pattern but you were right this is much funnier.
Also condolences to whichever cast member plays Jeff. He's the only character in this scene whose performance isn't credited so I had to wing his appearance even moreso than usual off the one (1) promotional photo he's in.
10/10 photo though
#doodles#groundhog day blogging#groundhog day the musical#ghd#(i once again wish to stress this is based on the melbourne casting)#(i am aware of the other actresses that played rita and i went back and forth on who to draw)#(but ultimately decided to go w/ the cast i watched given that's the script version i'm drawing)

some other Miscellaneous Japan Thoughts after day 1:
there are. So many vending machines around here. if you ever want a Drink Treat have no fear, you are within 5 metres of a vending machine with peach tea or canned coffee at any given moment
there are also a shitload of convenience stores as well. i walked down one street that had a Family Mart, a Lawsons, and a 7/11 all within eye distance
my fucking god the sweets / desserts are so fucking good here. custard cream donuts are heavenly. those wiggly puddings are everything i wanted and more. if i could live off sweets for the next two weeks without my body crying for A Fucking Vegetable i would
walked past a massive two-storey building for 24 Hour VR Ultra Men's Entertainment. im not sure if i want to know what that is but good for them i guess
somehow we got lost trying to find Ueno Park and ended up accidentally walking into a cemetery twice
my Japanese co-worker told me not many people speak English in Japan but thankfully I have run into quite a few who have helped me bumble my way through train stations and convenience stores. we had a nice chat with a lady in Ueno Park who approached us cuz her son wanted to know where we're from since he didn't recognise the accent. turns out she has colleagues in Melbourne and i almost thought i was gonna have a Cliche Movie Moment where we discover we coincidentally know the same person
freshy-made takoyaki from a festival stand tastes 100x better than any takoyaki ive had in Australia. literally who would've thought

Unlocking Your Online Potential: Why Every Melbourne Business Needs an SEO Consultant
Imagine strolling down bustling Collins Street, vibrant shops buzzing, cafes overflowing with eager Melbournians – a thriving scene, except your business remains hidden, tucked away in a dimly lit alleyway. This, for many businesses in the digital age, is the harsh reality of a neglected online presence. But fear not, dear reader, for just like Gandalf guiding Frodo through treacherous landscapes, an SEO consultant can illuminate your path to online visibility and unlock your business's true potential.
But why, you ask, is an SEO consultant essential for every Melbourne business? Let's ditch the riddles and delve into the compelling reasons why investing in an SEO guru is like discovering buried treasure on the St Kilda foreshore:
1. Navigate the Ever-Shifting Digital Landscape: Remember the last time you tried navigating Melbourne's tram system without Google Maps? Confusing, right? The world of SEO is just as intricate, evolving faster than a barista crafting a latte art masterpiece. A seasoned consultant, like a seasoned tram driver, understands the ins and outs, staying ahead of algorithm updates and guiding you through the labyrinthine world of search engines.
2. Speak the Language of Search Engines: Imagine trying to order a flat white in Mandarin – communication gap, right? The same applies to search engines. An SEO consultant speaks their language fluently, translating complex algorithms and data into actionable strategies that resonate with Google and Bing. Think of them as your multilingual interpreter, ensuring your website speaks volumes to the right audience.
3. Attract Local Heroes, Not Just Tourists: Melbourne thrives on its unique neighborhoods, each with its own preferences and quirks. A local SEO consultant understands these nuances, tailoring your online presence to attract customers near and dear. Picture it like perfecting the perfect hot jam donut – catering to Melbournian tastes, not just generic donut lovers.
4. From Data Dungeons to Insights You Can Use: Buried deep within website analytics lie valuable insights, waiting to be unearthed. But who has the time to decipher these cryptic codes? An SEO consultant acts as your data Indiana Jones, unearthing hidden gems and translating them into actionable strategies. Think of them as your data decoder ring, transforming numbers into a roadmap for success.
5. Content that Captures Hearts, Not Crickets: Remember the power of a captivating story? It's the same with online content. An SEO consultant helps you craft narratives that resonate with your target audience, engaging them emotionally and driving conversions. Think of them as your content alchemist, transforming words into gold-winning campaigns.
6. Transparency: No Smoke and Mirrors Here: Ever encountered a "too good to be true" deal in Melbourne? We all have. SEO is no different. Beware of black-hat tactics and empty promises. A good consultant prioritizes ethical practices, building your online presence on a solid foundation of trust and transparency. Think of them as your ethical magician, wielding white hat SEO for sustainable success.
7. Budget Savvy Solutions, Not Bank-Breaking Spells: Investing in SEO is like buying a coffee – essential for Melbourne life, but budgets matter. A knowledgeable consultant understands your financial constraints, crafting customized strategies that maximize your return on investment. Think of them as your financial wizard, conjuring up effective solutions within your budget.
8. Communication: A Bridge, Not a Barrier: Imagine ordering a coffee and getting a confused stare – frustrating, right? Clear communication is key in SEO too. A good consultant explains complex concepts in plain language, keeping you informed and involved throughout the process. Think of them as your communication bridge, ensuring a smooth and transparent journey.
9. Flexibility: Adapting to Change Like a Melbourne Weather Forecast: Remember those unpredictable Melbourne storms? The SEO landscape is just as dynamic. A skilled consultant doesn't just react to change; they anticipate it, adapting their strategies to stay ahead of the curve. Think of them as your weather forecaster, predicting and preparing for upcoming algorithmic shifts.
10. More Than Just Rankings: Building a Brand You Love: It's not just about reaching the top of search results; it's about establishing a brand identity that resonates with your audience. A good consultant goes beyond rankings, helping you build trust, authority, and brand loyalty. Think of them as your brand architect, constructing a digital presence you can be proud of.
By unlocking the power of SEO with the Seo consultant Melbourne, you're not just opening a shop on a bustling street; you're transforming it into a vibrant destination, attracting Melbournians who resonate with your story and offerings. So, step out of the shadows, embrace the digital sunshine, and embark on your SEO journey with the right guide by your side. Remember, Melbourne businesses, a hidden gem deserves to be discovered!

Laser Cut Botupa
First, I drew a Lineart Botupa on a flash card (at a Dunkin' Donuts), then I scanned that drawing, and had a laser cutter at the Melbourne Maker Space to put that drawing on this piece of wood. I needed something to put it on, so I made that little holder out of some hard wood and gave it a nice stain.

Books of 2023
A slightly late round-up of my favourite books from last year. I’m learning to love myself more so for once in my life I had a lot of Did Not Finish books rather than a lot of low voted books, but these are the good lot.
- Grand Slam Romance by Ollie Hicks & Emma Oosterhous - queer Magical Girls play softball in this sexy, fun graphic novel.
- Cleat Cute by Meryl Wilsner - queer non-magical women play soccer in this hot but also sweet and thoughtful novel.
- Pas de Don’t by Chloe Angyal - a New York City Prima Ballerina runs all the way to Sydney to get away from a bad breakup. She finds the obligatory giant spiders, but she also finds herself and maybe love again?
- Saint of Steel series (including the not pictured Paladin’s Faith) by T Kingfisher - Paladins of a dead God keep on keeping on, fighting the forces of darkness, PTSD, and awkward social situations. There is also a great romance in each book.
- The Dos and Donuts of Love by Adiba Jaigirdar - I didn’t expect this book to to be YA and would have loved it EVEN MORE if it hadn’t been, but anyway you get what you get. A fat Bangladeshi girl signs up to be on a TV baking competition only to find out that her competitors include her very recent ex-girlfriend and another girl who seems extremely interested in her. This book has SO. MANY. PUNS.
- The Appeal by Janice Hallett - Murder mystery (not usually my thing) involving an amateur theatre company (ok that’s my thing) and also some medical drama (also my thing). This was a Fun Romp.
- Personal Score by Ellen van Neerven - fascinating look at what it’s like to love and play sport as a queer, Aboriginal, non-binary person on Stolen Land. There is history, memoir and poetry in this book but it’s not a hard read. This is probably my book of the year and I’m looking forward to hearing van Neerven speak about it at Midsumma later this month.
- Can I Steal You For A Second? By Jodi McAllister - this was a sequel to a book I read last year and the next in the series comes out on the 3rd of January. Two contestants on not!TheBachelor fall in love with each other instead of with The Bachelor. You don’t have to read the first book (Here For The Right Reasons) I don’t think to enjoy this but it is a great book also. One of the women is a nurse exhausted from working on the frontlines of the COVID pandemic and the other is a tiny blonde mechanic who is always eager to please.
- The Matchmaker by Saman Shad - I’ll admit, I chose this book based purely on that beautiful cover, but I ended up devouring it in 4 days so I think that speaks to its quality. A Sydney-based matchmaker (why so many books set in Sydney last year?! I need more Melbourne books this year!) is starting to lose clients as her community gossips that she has “unconventional methods” but then she lands a huge client with a huge catch - she can’t tell him he’s using her services. Of course this all goes horribly wrong (or horribly right). This book was a lot of fun and ALMOST made me want to go to Sydney.
